Recent stable recruit Miss Jackson has produced a neat display of speed to open her account in fine fashion at Rockhampton.
Miss Jackson joined the Garnett Taylor stable after beginning her career in Sydney with the Gerald Ryan camp. The mare immediately showed her ability with two solid barrier trial efforts during the winter months.
The daughter of Stratum ran a sold second at her debut for the stable at Rockhampton on August 16 before missing a place at Eagle Farm but hit back hard in her next appearance on her home track.
Miss Jackson drew the outside barrier in the Rockhampton Jockey Club Maiden Handicap (1050m) but jockey Adrian Coome quickly overcame the awkward draw to have the four-year-old leading on the rail inside the first 150 metres.
Coome controlled the speed of the race beautifully to have Miss Jackson primed for her finishing burst once the field entered the long Rockhampton straight.
Miss Jackson simply eased clear of her opposition at the 400 metres before extending her margin over the concluding stages to score a comprehensive 4-1/2 length win.
The mare’s win came at her seventh career start and bumped her prizemoney to more than $9,000.
Congratulations to her owners – W J & Mrs D P Ouston, T J & Mrs K W Harry, J J & Mrs A L Doyle & N Hawtin.
